Yoga Practice for Women

Yoga for women
Yoga for women

Over a hundred years of women’s observances leading to our current International Women’s Day have promoted and raised awareness of women’s role in this world both domestic and commercial.

Today with the advent of social media women voices are being heard with rapid speed on subjects both superficial and profound. Women are in a position to communicate our concerns more powerfully than ever. What is important to remember is that for aeons our fundamental communication has been informed by intuition and introspection.

During the most critical aspects of our existence women administer, support, rejoice and console. In the processes of birth, life and death women play their part with grace and tenderness. Of course men also do this, these qualities are not gender specific but the purpose of this writing is to highlight women, yoga and the qualities yoga engenders.

Yoga defined as union can be interpreted in so many parts of our lives. Yoga links us with not only our bodies, minds and being but the minds and spirits of others, and the natural rhythms of all life. Yoga can be seen as: being here, being present to all that is happening, interacting, contributing, nourishing and constructing by connecting with the environment and the people we come in contact with. With its underlying premise as celebration yoga opens doors to a beauty of perception and wisdom that we can tap simply by taking some time for ourselves. We all know there are so many ways to unwind. Relaxing takes many forms. The degree and depth of our relaxation can be measured by how quickly stress affects us be it external or internal stress.

Often we merely keep in a lid on our volatility by entertaining or distracting ourselves from what is happening to us.. An established practice of yoga and meditation not only increases our depth of awareness but gets the entire system resonating harmoniously. Being in touch with what our life experience is and yet remaining calm and clear, soft and strong has always been a women’s birthright.

Yoga brings these qualities alive. Its is life and living that we do best. The many levels of our contribution whether it is in healing arts, the business world, politics and communication, art and science benefit from the creativity and preparation a good yoga practice gives. As women take more leading roles in public life it is important that our ability to care and share is coupled with resolution and determination, while privately we continue to have successful and enduring relationships.

By strengthening our natural intuitive capacities, by marrying head and heart women have the power to effect a more stable and non violent world contributing to well being and peaceful living. Many women have improved the world tremendously and many are currently working towards a better society yet there is still need for improvement. We do not need to be high flyers to effect change, any woman, in any role, can develop her innate qualities and influence her world.

Yoga unites, consolidates and empowers just what we need for the feminine yogi.
